"...Fitzgerald’s hard-boiled tales of loners and open spaces, combined with his evocative guitar work, creates an epic sound...not so much country-rock as high desert rock...there is a wind-carved harshness and mystical poetry to the songs..." ~ Michael McCall

Ride from the windswept American high plains to the desolate terrain of a moonlit Delta night with The Flying Dutchman, The Last Time, Oklahoma Road, Outlaw Blues, Another Sun Goes Down, Straw Dogs, Right Between The Eyes, In These Hills, Your Imagination, and Bonus Track, Seven Keys.

Digitally processed from analog master tapes recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios A & B, Silverline/Goldline, and Dream Kitchen Nashville.

  • The West has never been so Wild! Saddle up and hit the trail with these offbeat fables of things that go bump in the night among the tumbleweeds. A collection of eleven original western stories of mystery, suspense, and speculation that blend the history of the old west with the classic traditions of pulp fiction.

Edited by R.D. Williamson, Westward Strange features stories by R.D. Williamson, Ezekial Marsh, Matthew Hernando, J.Edward Fitzgerald (Christmas Cactus & God Made Cain), Kenneth Johnson, Herbert Hamilton, Jan Campbell and Washita Red. Each saga is handsomely illustrated with line drawings and icons by Trudy Williamson.

"Westward Strange takes an off-beat approach to western story-telling, diverging from much of the weird west and western detective fiction. The tone ranges from radio westerns to the Twilight Zone, with similar storytelling values. The authors take their cue more from traditional [pulp style and modern lit] models instead of the 'new fiction' seen in much current material in this field; they're creative but leave room for and set going the reader's imagination. They do a good job of it too with first rate, very readable tales, notably from Ed Fitzgerald, KR Johnston, Jan Campbell, Matt Hernando and Herb Hamilton. The tales from editor R D Williamson are not bad either, though further off the reservation. Many beautiful pen and ink drawings illustrate the tales well. This is a keeper of a book, well designed and produced and full of reading entertainment like a good Western should." ~ NGC - Amazon - 5 Stars

lyrics

STRAW DOGS

DIM LIGHTS IN A SUMMER FOG
DRIVING THROUGH THE NIGHT
THE WILD WIND IS HOWLING
CUTTING JUST LIKE YOUR KNIFE

I LEARNED IT THE HARD WAY
FROM YOU MY FRIEND
WHEN I TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK
YOU BLADE WENT SLIPPING IN

STRAW DOGS RUN TONIGHT
IN FIELDS OF FIRE
STRAW DOGS RUN TONIGHT
WITH THE BANSHEE CLAN
AND GHOSTS ON THE WIRE

REELING UNDER A FULL MOON
IN A BLACK MAGIC SKY
I MADE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT
JUST WASN’T MY TIME TO DIE

NOW I’M STANDING BEFORE YOU
AND YOU’RE WONDERING WHY
YOU’RE GOING TO RIDE MY HURRICANE
PAY AN EYE FOR AN EYE

YOU WERE ALWAYS THE ONE
TO TALK TALK AND REASON
IN YOUR DARKENED HEART
ALL THAT TALK TURNED TO TREASON

THE WORLD IS BURNING
EVERYWHERE I TURN

STRAW DOGS RUN TONIGHT
IN FIELDS OF FIRE
STRAW DOGS RUN TONIGHT
WITH THE BANSHEE CLAN
AND GHOSTS ON THE WIRE
